My first sale

Sold my first item from the basement cleanout: a magic wand Christmas tree remote. (I received two as gifts a couple years ago.) Sold it for $12 in one of my local Facebook buy & sell groups. I listed a couple of packs of Christmas cards and envelopes that didn’t sell, but I may have […]

Tom Yum Goong: Puzzling but not unpleasant We drove west from Denver to our Airbnb near the town of Bailey. Along the main road (past Conifer, before our turnoff at the Loaf n’ Jug), we were admiring the scenery and quaint mountain towns when we spotted an unexpected symbol of our love: We’d had no […]

9Thai

Now that we have this blog, we’ve been making a point to eat Thai food as part of significant events so we can write about them. On our first Long Weekend Away (milestone!), we flew to Denver and planned to meet a college friend of mine for lunch before heading into the mountains. It has been hands-down my favorite Broad Ripple restaurant since moving north from SoBro a year ago. However, Chiang Mai recently became an enigma.

Thai Spice

Thai Spice saved my life. I was on the precipitous brink of fatigued collapse and Thai Spice restored my vigor. If I was an old-timey health elixir salesman, I would fill a bottle with tom yum soup and go door-to-door espousing its healing properties.

Julia: This was our first time eating out together, or eating together at all. Until this point I had never seen you ingest any food at all. I joked that you were a robot, but I really thought the more likely reason was that you had taken a Count of Monte Cristo-esque vow to not dine with me until your divorce was finalized, or you had a restrictive diet due to an embarrassing medical condition. Or what if you didn’t like food??
